The Red Sea, Egypt

I have been to the Red Sea, Egypt on four occasions. The first two visits have been based at Sharm El Sheik, the others have been from Hurghada on a live aboard charter boat. Plenty of coral reefs and colourful sea life. The liveaboard trips have meant more because these have included wreck dives also.

Wrecks have included the S.S.Thistlegorm, an armed merchantman sunk in 1941. Full of military supplies. Lies in 30 metres and the top (the bow) is only 15 metres. You can enter the holds and swim through the wreck. The M.V.Giannis D, a modern freighter that ran aground and sank in the 1980's. Bow and stern separate in about 25 metres, are able to get inside the engine area - fantastic! The ceramic freighter, a wreck full of ceramic tiles. This wreck of unknown name is in 25 metres of water and is upright. Was able get inside and saw the engine area, store rooms and stern section. Visibility on all dives excellant at 35 metres.
