The Basingstoke branch of the British Sub-aqua club (branch number 609) was founded in 1973 by a small group of divers, then members of a local club at Reading.
The club at that time had two small 4 metre inflatable boats. Today the club has two 5.6 metre RIB's and does adventurous diving. This includes visits to wrecks off the Isle of Wight, Dorset and South Devon coasts.
Club holidays have been organised to Cornwall, West Wales, Scapa Flow and the Red Sea.
We have approximately 35 members.
The club supports the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and recently raised £900 in a sponsored swim.
The club welcomes new divers.
The club meets at the Sherborne Club, Elm Road, Sherborne St. John off the Aldermaston Road, A340, near Basingstoke on Thursday nights from 8.00pm.
The club has dived at many locations. The usual home area is the South Coast of England between the Isle of Wight and Dorset as far West as Lyme Regis. A common launch site is from West Bay near Bridport, Dorset into Lyme Bay. Other sites include Cornwall, South Devon, Sussex and Scapa Flow at Orkney.
The club also arranges diving holidays. These have included Cornwall at Easter and Salcombe during the Summer Bank Holiday week.
Dives are carried out on wrecks and reefs using the club's two RIB's.
Overseas trips have included the Red Sea
Some club members are also trained to Advanced and Technical Nitrox Diver standard with IANTD ( International association of Nitrox and Technical divers). Our advanced wreck dives run by the club usually make use of nitrox for decompression.
